The Beauty in our Differences

Image
Hello People! How are we doing? . Welcome to the 8th month of the year. Can you believe it? 2017 is going so fast and even though I felt July was really slow, it's amazing to see how fast the year is going generally. I hope we've all been putting our aspirations and inspirations to good use. If you're like me who is yet to meet a whole bunch of set targets  don't get all worked up. You're not alone. We're in this together... lol. But of course, we can't relent in our efforts to meet those targets and reach those goals. . Today, I just want to think aloud. Call it a random musing , open soliloquy ... whatever fits the description after you're done reading. But it's borne out of what I have observed in the past few months; an issue that began to affect my self esteem without even realizing it until a week ago when I was at a book review and the issue came up and it struck me for the umpteenth time. It's about comparison of people's ...

weTalk! (Thin Lines:1)

Hello blog fam. Trust we've all been doing well. Let me start by thanking you all for your amazing support and devotion to this blog. I'm truly inspired, motivated, and encouraged to write more. The feedback from the last short story series 'Chasing Shadows' has been mind blowing. Tons of comments from different quarters (plus the comments I bullied  some people into dropping... lol. (don't mind me. Your comments inspire me. I need that inspiration, so bear with me if I force the inspiration out of you, literally)) have requested a second part to the story. Many people think the story shouldn't end that way. I'm done fighting the urge not to write a part 2 of 'Chasing Shadows'. So, I guess it will be safe for me to tell y'all to anticipate a second part to the story. In the meantime, I want us to go back to our 'weTalk' series, which I started in April 2015. It's basically short stories raising pertinent issues that affect everyone...

Hello people. Thanks again for always following my blog. It feels so good to see the number of views rise. As you would have noticed, I'm really into stories revolving around relationships . I have decided to create a platform where we can talk about some issues that are quite popular amongst youths, basically but not restricted to 'relationships', and I hope that you guys will be able to help out with answers to the questions that will follow each short story. It's important to state from the on-set that the stories are majorly true-life stories, but identities - names and locations will be purely fictional.I believe we would all have a nice time contributing and in effect, providing solutions to pressing issues bothering our minds through this platform. Once again, I thank you for following the blog. We start off with the story below. Enjoy! *** ... From a Frustrated 'Engagee" It was a beautiful Friday afternoon like today. I was in the highest ...

Hello darling sweethearts. I'm in high spirits as I type this, and it's just because of something most people are used to, that they'd probably wonder why I'm overly excited... I'm thinking of posting "Christmas stories" of different people right here. If you would like me to post your Christmas story, please send a story containing what made or will make your Christmas a memorable one and I'd post here. As for me, I...

The butterflies....

Image
Hello people. It's been a really long time I posted anything here. Truth is, I've been busier than busy itself. But I'm glad I got this few minutes to drop by to check on you, my lovely readers. There's so much catching up we have to do; and I have so much to talk about. But since I'm just dropping by to say hello, I'd just like you all to watch out for my all the fabulous gists I have in store for you, and my upcoming  "butterflies" series. Trust me, I'd be back to tell you all that has happened to and around me; and in my environs in a bit. Keep your fingers crossed. Peace!

GET NEAT! GET RID OF THE CLUTTER!

Hi everyone. Today I’ll be writing about one of the most important but widely neglected issues of all time. And it’s about cleanliness. I may be a little gender biased today but that’s because it has become a generally acceptable fact that the male gender can be excused from being ‘neat’ and ‘organized’. It is unfortunate that some girls have been found to be even more disorganized and untidy than some guys. I will start from myself. I don’t live in my apartment alone. In actual fact, I’ve never really lived alone, all alone, all my life; and I have since found out that people aren’t the same everywhere. Perspective to things differ, approach, mannerisms, attitudes, behavior; e.t.c differ. And though it hasn’t been easy, I’ve learnt to live with as many ‘weird’ people as there are at their different levels. But one thing I’m yet to understand is how and why people shrug off a disorganized and dirty environment. As a lady, I really don’t have the perfect excuse to give any othe...

The Perfect Monday Syndrome... How true?

Image
Hello people. I came up with this write-up this morning. Read and Enjoy, and drop your comments once you're done. Thanks. ................................................................... How true is the myth that once you start off your monday on a "funny/wrong" note, the rest of the days of the week are likely to turn out the same way? It's a beautiful but extremely cold Wednesday here in South-Western Nigeria. I woke up quite late, hurried to prepare breakfast for everyone, do some kitchen cleaning; before going to the bathroom. I decided to do a brief laundry too. By the time I was done getting all set for work, I was already so late. I have this sweet neighbour that drops me off at work. She was already late too, but I delayed her the more, as I had forgotten to pick so many things that I'd be needing for the day at work. I had to go back a couple of times to pick my wig and gown, get my packed food (thanks to my sister), pick up my wallet... And ye...

My Backbone...

Hello everyone. I trust you've all been doing great. I've been away for a whooping 8months now, and it's been due to a whole lot of things that I can't begin to explain right now. But I'm super excited to be back here to share my exciting thoughts with you. Today's post is just a quick dedication to all my amazing friends and fans out there, especially a new dear friend I just made in the past few months, that ensured I kept my blog alive. Thank you, Oluseyi Otufale of Me-Tym Productions. Bigger thanks to every other gorgeous friend of mine; can't begin to mention names right now, but you all have been super wonderful. Wanna share a cute write-up one of my adorable "make-up artist" friends (Ronke Lawal) sent me. I know it will get you thinking. Please Enjoy: "Around the corner I have a friend, In this great city that has no end, Yet the days go by and weeks rush on, And before I know it, a year is gone. And I never see my o...

I NEVER LOST MY PRAISE !!!

Image
It’s a beautiful morning at my end here. I woke  up with so much excitement. I couldn’t just wait to come down here and share my joy. Today, I’m celebrating one amazing year filled with, so much joy, laughter, happiness, drama plus accomplishments that I never imagined could surface all at the same time. Exactly one year ago, I went through what seemed to be the most humiliating time of my life. It didn’t exactly start this day (29 th March) last year. The whole experience had begun some months before then but they were just times I prayed and wished everything around me will be alright but didn’t. I’m sure most of you are lost but here’s the long story cut short, in the lyrics of a song I really love: "I've lost some good friends along life's way Some loved ones departed in Heaven to stay But thank God I didn't lose everything I've lost faith in people who said they care In the time of my crisis they were never there But in my disappointment...

Charles Novia shares his perspective on “My Oga at the Top"

Charles Novia shares his perspective on “My Oga at the Top” Obaifeiye Shem, the Lagos Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Defence Corps, would never have imagined in his life that he would start off a viral and new-Naija lexicon with his famous phrase, ‘my Oga at the top‘. I caught the bug just a day back when I started receiving blackberry broadcasts with whimsical coinages about it and I had to go on youtube to see the interview for myself. Briefly, Commandant Shem was asked to give the correct web address of the NSDC and he made the now-famous phrase..’my oga at the top will not allow me..’ or something close to that. As hilarious as this may be to millions of people, it is also a sad reminder of our societal genuflection as a people. The whole apparatus of the Nigerian administrative organogram is strangleheld by so many ‘Ogas on top’. An effective ‘checks-and-balances’ system which works seamlessly in other climes is made impotent here in Nigeria by a wicked system of ...

Taking out time to apologize...

Image
Hi everyone.   I trust that we’ve all been good. How did our Valentine’s Day go? I did promise to blog about various issues centered on the most talked about topic for this month: “Love” but I got tied down with work in a place where I had no access to you all via my blog. And that’s why I’m taking this time out to apologize for not keeping my promise. I wish I could take a sneak peek into how you all spent Valentine’s day but that’s not going to be possible. But I’m hoping that no one had an awful one and no one got his/her heart broken by whatever excuse or circumstances. If you did, I need to assure you that you’ve got a shoulder to cry on if need be and here’s me giving you a big hug to ease the pain (XXXX). As for me, I had a swell time on Valentine’s day. Let’s leave it at that…*Winks* I’m back and better now and I sure have a whole lot to share with you. Enjoy the rest of your day. And please, keep reading!

T.G.I.... (fill in the gap): It's an attitude!

Image
Good morning people. I bet you all slept well. It's a funky fresh friday and although I should be more excited than this but I'm not. That's because I started the day off on a pretty bad note; bashed my car while trying to driving out. My driving skills need to improve asap. But that is just by the way. Today, the famous acronym comes to mind - TGIF which means Thank God It's Friday. Everyone looks forward to Friday 'cause it's the door into the weekend. I still wonder why Friday is so close to Monday and  Monday is far from Friday. But I was thinking yesterday night while trying to scribble something down for my blog, why can't we customize the TGIF acronym to suit our various circumstances at different times? It really is a positive way to view Friday as the close of working days and it can be a positive way to view your everyday life. It speaks a lot of volumes to be thankful to God for yet another Friday and if we imbibe the TG...(fill in the gap)...

The New Face of Ibadan

Image
I've lived in this great and ancient city of Ibadan for 19 years now and to be candid, i've had a great stay in this calm city. However, this city has been characterised by "dirtness" and "disorganisation". It ranked top as the "dirtiest" city in Nigeria. Indeed, Ibadan has been a "big slum". Lawlessness and non-challant attitude has been the order of the day. And we the "seemingly tush" ones have learnt to live in it, only caring about our own house and not even the rest of the street. And when Fashola came into government in Lagos State and started the brutal revolution, many of us in Ibadan were quick to conclude that that was only possible in Lagos and such revolution cannot take place in Ibadan. Oyo state with the slogan of "Pace Setter" has actually failed to set the pace in so many things in the past years up until now when it seems that a bit of fresh air is blowing into this great city. The recent Ajimob...
