Being Human (14)

Jay zoomed into the compound without paying any attention to Musa who was hailing him as usual. He didn't have time for greetings and jokes; not at that moment. He parked his car and with the rage he still felt, walked towards the door and began hitting the door. Saidat ran to the door before her madam  would hear the noise from her bedroom upstairs, to see who who it was. "Oga Jay, good morning" Jay nodded in response and walked past her without saying a word, straight to the bedroom. He opened the door without knocking and blurted out: "What is wrong with you? Why are you so bent on ruining my life? Why?" Mrs. Martins was seated at her dressing table, taking off her jewelry. She knew Jay was going to come after she had barged in on him that Sunday morning, and she had him exactly where she wanted. She did not take her face off from the mirror, as she continued slowly with the jewelry. "Are you deaf?"  Jay could feel the heat and vibrati

"you should call him, you know?" Elizabeth gently said as she walked past Dolapo to her desk. Dolapo just smiled at her and watched her take her stroll back to her duty post. It had been one month and three weeks since she spoke to Jay, in actual fact she had not spoken to Jay since she left Abuja. She had promised herself to get involved in other things that will distract her from thinking about Jay, and had also decided not to pick his call nor call him till she was sure what to make of their relationship . She seemed  to be doing great in keeping herself busy as she was now a part of the decorating unit of the Youth Church and  now had a flat mate to keep her company. She didn't think she would cope with sharing her flat with Lizzy initially, but after seeing what Lizzy had gone through, she was more than eager to help accommodate Lizzy till she was able to get a place of her own, like she promised. She had also been able to drag Lizzy to attending the prog

They had both done their best to pet Dolapo to sleep. She had wept for some time after seeing the pictures of Lizzy's bruised face . She kept asking what sort of man would beat another human being to the point where such wounds were inflicted. Folusho made sure her friend slept before she went back to bed. They had a long morning ahead. They both had flights to catch back to their base. Jay on the other hand, barely slept. He had to figure out a way to sort himself ASAP  before Dolapo found out anything. He had to see the Minister too, to finalize plans for the catering of his daughter's wedding. A part of him laughed at how much faith he had in the possibility of him still having the contract, the other part reminded him of Mrs. Martins and what she was capable of doing. He brushed the thought aside as he drifted off to sleep. *** It was just 7 am. A knock on the door was the last thing Jay could expect on a Sunday morning. He excused himself from the dining where t

"I'm sorry, I'm not home. How urgent is it?" Dolapo pressed the 'send' option on her bbm in response to Lizzy's ping. The day was already hectic enough, she couldn't handle any Lizzy drama or gist from her side. All she wanted was to go home, have a chat with her boyfriend, get all the clarification she needed, eat and sleep. She threw her phone into her bag after sending the message she had typed. She was exhausted but was so glad when Uche called that they were on their way to pick them up at the mall. She sighed one more time as her phone vibrated again. "Stalker?" Folusho asked without lifting her head up from what she was viewing on her phone. "Nope. It's Lizzy" "I see..."   she still didn't lift her head up. "Give me that... you're such a phone-addict" Dolapo snatched the phone from Folusho's hand to see what she was doing. She was texting her boyfriend; sending the picture

She sprayed a little more of her Shalini as she wrapped herself in her silk robe, while taking calculated steps towards the bed, smiling sheepishly as if the events of that evening were going to be any special than the previous ones. She actually hoped it would be special , it was an awkward feeling of expectant joy of some sort. It was about the contract, she could tell. It was going to be a major break for Jay and she knew how badly he wanted this connection. It was a connection of the connections ; more like a connection that would open bigger doors for him, and most likely (at least from her past experiences) he was going to grow major wings after this deal, but she didn't mind. All she needed was one last piece of the cake, or two, or three, depending on how cooperative he would be and how strong her resolve to keep having him at her beck and call could go. She was not for the destroying a promising young man's future. Afterall, she had her own kids and wouldn't

She wasn't really interested in what her friends were saying, she had only agreed to attend this function because of her other plans at Reiz Continental. Who had time for all these unnecessary chit-chats on a Saturday afternoon, she thought to herself. Mrs. Deola Martins managed another fake smile as she chewed on a piece of samosa and sipped her punch. Moji Allen had lured her into attending a meeting of the big chefs in the city and even though it wasn’t the first time she was getting the invitation, she had decided to honour same this time, partly because she didn’t have a more important function to attend, and majorly because she had coincidentally booked a room at Reiz on this particular Saturday. She considered her favorite hobby to be  trying out new places; hotels especially . She smiled sheepishly at the pictures she had taken on her way to the hotel and then scrolled to her whatsapp. She saw a picture of a girl on Jay’s whatsapp profile picture and immediately closed
