Faith Tunde-Yara The Previous Day "Wait, Tade..." Sewa said at the top of her voice once they were out of the compound. He had been dragging her for some time now, and although she was scared of this new person in her bestie's skin, she couldn't take it anymore. They both had to think logically at this point, and it was obvious Tade was not in his right senses. Tade suddenly became conscious of himself and the hurt he was causing Sewa. He released his hold on her and began to

December 2012 "You know the way to a man's heart..." He gulped the water and placed the glass cup on the tray. He picked the tray containing the empty plate and glass cup and walked up to join her in the kitchen. She laughed without turning back on the dishes she was washing. She had since moved out of the student residence after her second year at the University. She lived in a fully furnished self-contained apartment that was quite close to school. She loved it here, it was more convenient for her. "Your wife material enh? 1 million yards..." He laughed. He was now standing next to her. "I'm glad you enjoyed it; as always..." She smiled and collected the tray from him. "I'm still waiting for you to confess o; maybe it's my food that brought you back to Pretoria, six months after your grad..." She laughed loudly this time, and he joined in the laughter. He washed his hands, dabbed with a towel and went back to the

He tried so hard to sleep but couldn't. He was exhausted from the day's work; from worrying about his wife; from overthinking things; from calming his wife down; from making an emergency dinner for them both, since she looked too weighed-down by the doctor's report; and most importantly, from being an understanding husband. The recent series of events tested his best character trait - to be understanding.  After rolling on the bed for a few minutes, he gave up. He sat up in bed and watched Sewa sleep peacefully, like a baby without worries. So many thoughts ran through his mind. He tried to shut out the ideas that suddenly came rushing. He remembered the Pastor's message at Kingword church. Maybe this was the devil trying to mess up his family. Yes, it was the devil - the devil had come in Tade's form - and he was going to do just what the Pastor preached - to resist the devil ! With that thought in mind, Kunle got down from the bed, walked towards the beside t

She smiled out of the court room. The judgement had been given in favour of her client. She was relieved, and hopeful that the rest of the week would be as exciting as this first day. Her client, a mid-40 year old woman walked up to her as she stepped out of court and thanked her. She was glad that her kids would not be taken away from her by her alcoholic husband. She came with her mother who kept thanking Fikayo for saving them. After a brief discussion, Fikayo excused herself and rushed to the car. She brought out her phone from her bag and saw Sewa and Keffi's missed calls. Sewa called around 10.35am, while Keffi called some two hours after. She felt it was strange for Sewa to call around that time on a Monday, except of course, she wanted to discuss the hang out for Tade. She decided to call her back before starting the car. She gave up after two trials, without Sewa picking up, and drove back to the office. *** She was now on the floor, with one out of the small pict

The next morning, Sewa woke up earlier than usual, and was glad her husband was still fast asleep. She said her prayers in bed, after which she stepped out of the room to make arrangements for her husband's breakfast and lunch to be taken to work. She had no worries about getting to work late; her dance studio was not far from the house. Before walking down to the kitchen, she pulled out one of his blue dry cleaned shirts and a customized tie of the Insurance Company he worked for. It was customary for all staff to wear the tie (and lapel for the ladies) on Mondays. She noticed a new paper bag as she opened the wardrobe, but ignored it completely. Once she was done picking out his shirt, tie, pants and jacket for that day, she gave him a light tap and urged him to wake up. She then walked down to the kitchen and began fixing both breakfast and lunch for them both. In minutes she was done with the toast and eggs. She eventually found the yam and egg Kunle made the previous nig

It had been three hours since the surprise meal Kunle was making for his wife was ready. He dished the meal in a food flask to keep it warm. He had no plans of calling her, just ( to show how serious he was about having the unwanted guest out of his house)  so he wouldn't ruin the surprise. He also decided to wait for her to return before eating, but after two hours of waiting, he couldn't stop the hunger pangs. He then helped himself to a few slices of yam and egg, with a cup of cold tea. He enjoyed the meal in front of a repeat football match of his club on Supersports channel and fell asleep shortly after. Sewa walked into the dark sitting room with her shoes in her hands. She was exhausted from driving. Fikayo was able to convince to get out of the house and stop moping about some Tade  exit. Along with Chioma, they spent the better part of their Sunday at De Palms Mall. After hours of window shopping, Fikayo saved the day by buying her husband a new bible at a christ

Kunle was not in the mood to go to church that morning. As a matter of fact, he was not dressed for church. He rushed out of the house in a grey polo and a dark blue jeans. But he wasn't used to skipping church on Sundays, especially since his work schedule and the hectic traffic wouldn't give him a chance to attend mid-week services. This Sunday was not going to be any different, he told himself. He decided to go to a different church, far away from home, just to avoid seeing Sewa in church. He was hopeful that Sewa would get rid of the visitor and find her way to church, but he decided to give her enough space to sort herself out. He drove to the mainland, while thinking of a church to attend, without anyone recognizing him. He eventually decided on KingsWord Church and made his way to Oregun. He entered just in time for the message, with the congregation on their feet, singing a song that the Pastor had requested. The church auditorium was full, and Kunle had to search a

It was the most quiet dinner time they had had since they got married. Kunle missed the chatting and laughing at dinner time. The atmosphere was exceptionally tense. Tade sat across the table from Sewa but he concentrated on his meal like an exam. Sewa on the other hand tried to make small talk but she quickly adjusted after several ' hmm, yes, okay ' responses, with her husband gulping so much water and asking for a refill of his glass on several occasions. "Baby, is it peppery?" She began to feel guilty. She must have added too much chili just the way Tade liked it, she thought and gave herself a mental slap. "Not really... water please." Kunle requested again. Sewa quietly passed the jug of water and that was the end of small talk. She thought she saw Tade smile when she asked her husband about the excess chili in the soup, and her stomach churned at the thought of Tade enjoying the meal all by himself. She was quick to pack up the dishes an
